　　　　　本文作者認為：近代心理學或社會科學可以說是十六世紀文藝復興運動發生之後，自歐洲興起的一種特殊思維方式的產生。我們要在東方社會中推展“心理學本土化運動”，一定要對西方的科學哲學有基本的了解，從其中選擇適合的方法論和認識論，來分析我們的文化傳統，然後以之作為基礎，針對華人社會中的種種現象，提出學術性的問題，來從事社會科學研究。本文以作者過去所完成的研究為例，說明他如何用“實在論”的方法建構“人情與面子”的理論模式；如何用“結構主義”的方法分析“道、儒、兵、法”的中華文化傳統；以及如何用“實用主義”的方法從事社會心理學研究。作者希望：這種多元典範的研究取向能夠為華人的本土社會心理學開啟一個新的研究傳統。
