The purpose of the present study is to investigate Tainanese parents’ views of bilingual education and language uses at home between parents/grandparents and children. 1620 copies of questionnaire were sent out to parents. 1292 copies were returned and the return rate was almost 80%. The result indicated that most Tainanese parents are Mandarin-Taiwanese bilinguals; however most of them only use Mandarin when speaking with their young children. 95.3% of parents thought bilingual education should be implemented in preschool stage. However, the opinions were divided. Half of parents (55.4%) voted for Mandarin/English bilingual education and 25.2% selected heritage language /Mandarin bilingual education, while 10.9%of parents supported Mandarin/English/heritage trilingual education.
