This paper examines Wang Shi-Hsing’s Kuan Chi Yi, interpreting the writing aspects of note taking writings by interpreting the construction of local lore with the concept “folklore”. The paper mentions that different cultural products constitute the folklore. In a broader sense, region contains territory, landscape, trafficking, provincialism and different types of people. With the shifting of writer’s perspective, and the location of himself, the basis of narrative varies without denying. Wang Shi-Hsing creates the cultural meaning of local lore by contrasting the obtrusive observation, archeological spirit, viewpoint of the coordinator. Note-taking writings carry great diversity and heterogeneity because of its complicity and loose organization. If we take it as “social memory”, the sum of all social experiences from members in a Big Subject, maybe we can broaden a reading horizon combining literature, culture and geographical space.
