The main goals of this study were to investigate the current states of the sixth graders' perceptions of legitimacy of maternal power of guan-chiao and psychological control as well as the differences of groups with various levels of perception of legitimacy of maternal power of guan-chia perceived maternal psychological control. The measures included "Legitimacy of Maternal Power of Guan-Chia Questionnaire" and "Maternal Psychological Control Questionnaire". The samples were 491 sixth graders selected from the public elementary schools in Taipei areas. Results showed that, first of all, children perceived certain level of maternal legitimacy for the domains of "moral", "friendship", "academic and everyday-life", as well as "leisure and health". The order from high to low was the domains of "moral", "friendship", "academic and everyday-life", then "leisure and health". In addition, children perceived middle level of maternal psychological control. Finally, the low level group of perception of legitimacy of maternal power of guan-chiao perceived significant higher level of maternal psychological control than the high level group did for the domains of "moral", "academic and everyday-life", and "leisure and health". For the domain of "friendship", there was no significant difference of maternal psychological control among groups with various levels of perception of legitimacy of maternal power of guan-chiao.
