　　　　　歷來對於「知識分子」的研究皆不重視概念之釐清功夫，不知道概念建構乃是所有研究之基礎，任何具體研究皆為概念建構之延伸。本文宗旨在於從重新建構「知識分子」理念類型概念的設想角度，重點評述西方學界歷來關於「知識分子」問題的討論形態，一方面說明其各自特色，另一方面又指出其可借鑒之處何在。總體而言，本文所借重的是從內向外推的論述進路，亦即文內所謂「推」的進路，企圖從重新界定「知識」的性格出發，而以「活在知識中的人」作為「知識分子」之新界說。
