　　　　　歷史研究法是質性的詮釋方法，透過變化之因果關係解釋，不僅可以驗證理論， 更可以發展理論，對處於動態階段之圖書資訊學理論與實務，可以有效地累積知識，提供 鑑往知來的啟示。本文提出一涵蓋研究設計、歷史分析和撰寫報告之三階段歷史研究架構， 以供圖書資訊學界熟悉歷史研究法之系統化研究策略。同時分析有關歷史研究之圖書館學博 士論文，以了解歷史研究法在圖書資訊學研究應用之梗概。
　　　　　Historical research provides a qualitative interpretative method uniquely formulated to explain the causes of change through time. As such, it offers considerable potential for expanding our current understanding of inherently dynamic and volatile library phenomena. In this paper a three-stage framework of methodology is proposed: research design, historical analysis and report preparation. Dissertations on historical research are reviewed as background to examine the nature and application of historical research in library and information science.
