題名:跨國移動、越界離散:台灣/東亞當代女性紀錄片研究

筆者試圖在女性的紀實影像分析上,融合女性影像美學理論,尋覓台灣及東亞影像文本,實踐其跨越疆界的女性影像身體行動書寫策略。關於台灣∕東亞的跨國移民、家園建造和女性主體形成的過程中,視覺圖像乃勾勒出近代台灣∕東亞女性普遍且迫切的問題。本文歸納出「戰爭迫害的移動—慰安婦系列」、「東亞境內跨國婚姻的資本移動」、「同性情慾的流動與移居他鄉」等三大主題方向,針對同一主題的影像文本,透過相異國度、地域與民族所闡述的相似主題的紀錄影像,進一步討論其中相關聯的政治、歷史與當代議題,並企圖建構出屬於當代台灣∕東亞女導演紀錄片影音美學的發展脈絡與女導演影像創作的論述。 
  關於章節主題的安排─第一章乃釐清主題的歸納、比較研究的使用,研究的緣起,理論的探討、文本應用的釐清與記錄片美學的探討。第二章從女性家國離散論述、第三世界女性主義、後殖民思潮與性別論述為主,進行理論的闡明與文本分析的關聯性。第三章探討自二戰結束以降慰安婦事件的發聲。對於現已年邁,甚至即將殞落的前慰安婦阿嬤們,她們的故事充滿血淚,在未被告知的情境下的被迫移動,從事性奴隸的慰安婦工作,本章節的書寫乃對歷史的正名;透過書寫無名女性的小歷史與生命史,針對韓國與台灣對於慰安婦議題的處理,以及民間與官方立場的發言和影像語言詮釋的差異觀點,作為該章節的寫作重點。 
  第四章乃處理探討九十年代以來,全球性跨國資本移動語境中,東亞地區境內的跨國移動,國與國間貧富差距的籓籬。女性的出走從被迫移動到主動離開原鄉,以積極的姿態移動到鄰近國家。女性為求經濟獨立自主而越界出走,透過婚姻機制的交換,移動到他國的家庭成為勞動力與國際移工市場的分工,本章的影像文本探討關於台灣、日本與印尼等地,間接應證當今台灣∕東亞跨地域的經濟資本位移下,亞洲女性為追求獨立自主的企圖心,藉此扶持原生家庭經濟並追求財富資本的理想,這些移民女性定居他鄉,開始對移居的新國度的進一步學習文化,本章也探討移民女性從語言的學習到他鄉的認同。
  第五章回應本文處理台灣∕東亞地區遊走在邊緣的特殊位置,在面對性傾向的差異和游移的過程中,台灣∕香港∕中國的華人酷兒們,面臨性傾向無法確認的認同游移時,於是離開自己的家鄉前往西方。本章節論述酷兒離散乃至同志電影的討論;並且針對影像美學與影像中的性別陳述加以闡述分析。華人離散的經驗涉及儒家思想的傳承,建構華人酷兒離散美學的經驗,有助於解析當代華人同志如何在西方思潮的影響下,產生內在矛盾的游離認同經驗。故本章節歸納離散華人酷兒的文化性,並進一步加以闡述性別與族裔、文化、社群所產生的連結性。 
  本文希冀透過這些與台灣∕東亞女性切身相關的議題之論述書寫,一方面重新界定過去,並整合回溯過往台灣∕東亞女性經歷的移動離散課題。文本的挑選涵蓋歷史順時的線性安排,闡述當今重要歷史與政治事件影響下,對台灣∕東亞因地理位置與歷史脈絡關係,如女性、身體、性受難、離散的經驗等,所造成的共通或相似的生命情境。透過跨學科、跨地域的影像研究,以「身體」、「性∕性別」、「跨國移動」作為本論文之主軸,研究圍繞在以台灣為主的相鄰地域與題材,企圖以書寫為政治,建構環東亞地區女性影像論述的主體。

Migration and Diaspora:
A Study of Female Documentaries in Taiwan and East Asia
Abstract
Through analyzing the documentary as the film genre that reflects reality and representation, this thesis makes a systematic and comparative study on the films made by the female directors in Taiwan/East Asia by making a contrast and drawing a parallel among them. The geographical coverage of the study includes Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea, as well as some other countries in Southeast Asia. The topic is about the documentaries of the women of cross-national migration and diaspora, exploring the national, colonial, and female consciousness and identity of the recorded women, especially their active or passive stay and back-and-forth after crossing borders. Limited to Taiwan and East Asia as the specific region, this thesis examines the films of the same topic—the situations of women as the main objects of analysis.
With the analysis of the realistic images of women, I try to combine the aesthetic theories of female images by seeking the image-discourses of Taiwan and East Asia, so to hit the strategic target set by the writings of the moving bodies of female images crossing borders. In the process of the home building of the immigrants of Taiwan/East Asia, and the formation of female subjectivity, visual images reveal the crucial problems of modern Asian women of Taiwan/East Asia. The thesis is divided into three major topics—the moving (migration?) due to the oppression of war: the series of comfort women; the floating capital of transnational marriage inside the borders; and the moving of same sex desire and the moving to foreign countries. According to the image-discourses of the same topic, I further discuss the connections among politics, history and contemporary issues through the affiliated documentary images of different countries, regimes and ethnicities; and attempt to build up the aesthetics in the context of image and sound and the narratives created by the female directors of Taiwan/East Asia.
Chapter one clarifies the classification of the topics, the use of comparative studies and its motivation, the exploration of theory and the uses of discourse, and the aesthetics of documentary. Chapter two deals with the investigation and adoption of theories—to elucidate the theories and how they correspond to the discourses, from the narratives of diaspora, third world feminism, to postcolonial thoughts and gender perspectives. Chapter three discusses the articulation of the tragic event of “comfort women.” The stories of these aging, and even deceasing soon, women who were forced to be sex slaves as comfort women during World War II are full of misery. This chapter is to correct history by writing the “mini” life histories of anonymous women according to the treatment of the issues of comfort women in Taiwan and Korea, the articulation from the position of the civil sectors and government agencies, as well as the different viewpoints of image presentation and interpretation.
In light of the reflection to the historical events, Chapter four portrays the transnational migration in East Asia and the wealth gap among nations since 1990s. From forced exodus to voluntary migration, Asian women then actively moved to other countries. To pursue their economic liberty and independence, the Asian women, through marriage mechanism, left their homeland to earn a living for the original family and to pursue fortune, and become the important source of labor in the target nation. This chapter explores the situations in Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, etc., and indirectly shows that, under the cross-regional capitalism, how ambitiously the Asian women pursue their independence so as to assist the economics of their original families. Nonetheless, these women had to face the difference in culture and language living in an alien nation. This chapter thus also discusses the process of their overcoming the cultural difference—from language learning to the identification with the alien land.
Chapter five responds to the marginal nature of Taiwan/East Asia as special (geographical?) position dealt with in this thesis. In the confrontation with the difference of sexual tendency and the uncertain process of floating identity, Queers from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China chose to leave their hometown for western countries. From Queer Diaspora to homosexual movies, this chapter presents the interpretation of gender perspectives through the aesthetics and contents of images. The Diaspora of Chinese community is relevant to the passing on of Confucianism. To construct the aesthetics of Chinese Queer Diaspora is helpful to analyze how the experience of inner conflict of floating identity is built up under the influence of Western trends of thought. This chapter thus draws a conclusion on the cultural characteristics of the migrating Chinese Queers; and, moreover, demonstrates the links among nation, culture, community and gender.
This thesis, through the writings of the intimate and related issues of Taiwanese and East Asian women, endeavors to redefine the past on the one hand, and re-organize the issues of their experiences of migration and diaspora on the other. The chosen discourses cover the linear arrangement of historical events. They reveal that how, under the influence of the important historical and political events, women, body, sexual distress, and the experience of diaspora in the varied geographical and historical context may result in the same or close life experiences. Through the interdisciplinary and cross-regional studies of images, this thesis adopts body, sex/gender, cross-national migration as its core issues, examining their situations in Taiwan and its surrounding regions, and attempting to use writing as political manner so to construct the narration of the subjectivity of the female images in East Asia.
