This study focuses on the discussion of Wang Wei's poems; in terms of poetry development in history, it illustrates and researches the influence of Tao Yuan-ming's poems on Wang Wei's pastoral and landscape poetry developments. In addition to the theme, style, or reclusiveness, Wang Wei's pastoral and landscape poems have been truly influenced by Tao Yuan-ming; on the other hand, Wang Wei's poems also had new developments and presentation. Regarding object observation, Tao Yuan-ming's poems focused on understanding from the bottom of the heart, but Wang Wei's were inclined to appreciation in the relaxing way. Regarding spiritual meaning, Tao's poems were endowed with the relaxing and easy spirit of Daoism; however, Wang Wei's poems transformed from Daoism to Zen philosophy. On language style, Wang Wei's poems were delicate and ethereal as Tao Yuan-ming's were natural and simple; Wang Wei's poetry is a combination of poetry, picture, and Zen philosophy, which initiates the unique style and looks of nature poets in the prosperous Tang dynasty. This study is to illustrate the distinction and alikeness between Wang Wei's and Tao Yuan-ming's pastoral poetry; with the reference of Tao Yuan-ming's poetry, the properties and true value of Wang Wei's pastoral and landscape poetry can be fully expressed and manifested in terms of illustration.
