音樂結構如同連串逐字成詞的非語言旋律，神經心理學家研究指出，音樂如同情緒語言的特質（Blood, Zatorre, Bermudez, & Evans, 1999; Peretzet, Gagnon, & Bouchard, 1998），人的相同面部表情，在不同的文化背景下，會有異同的情緒表現的涵義（Ekman et al., 1987）。認知科學的理論與實務能更容易理解現象，在問題解決（problem solving）過程中的行為表現，情緒認知（emotional cognition）已被證實有所影響；音符喚起動機與堅持的心理現象，動機被情緒影響與控制（Belavkin, 2001）。
