This was a story about eleven policewomen in the last ten years. Contrast with another five policemen, we try to dig out the reason why policewomen in Taiwan choose their career path in their early career stage. And we try to point out the gender effects on policewomen career development. According to interview data we find out: 1. Gender roles make two sides effects on policewomen career, one for individual career planning, the other for organizational career management. 2. Gender equity issues have effects on the decisions of promotion. 3. The supervisors take maternity as a cause of low job involvement of policewomen. 4. The expectations of career development were influenced by individual personality traits. 5. Romance and marriage did have strong effects on policewomen career planning. 6. Chinese traditional family values have an influence upon policewomen gender role taking, the policewomen gender role taking has an influence upon policewomen career planning.
