According to the case study of Salach, this article explores the land rights of the Pingpu people in Salach. To understand why Salach gradually vanished in history and society’s stage of Taiwan, this study focuses on the land right loss of Salach based on the social system. This article applies ancient documents and archaic archives, and aims to elucidate the unequal economic status between the Han and the Pingpu, and how such economic inequality affected the landlord-tenant relationship. Besides reinterpreting the Han-aborigine land tenure data collected by scholars, the author will also draw on new materials to classify and elucidate problematics of various aborigine land rights.
