Most studies on Wen Xin Diao Long were limited on the level of literature, as for those problems beyond the scope of literature, those studies then turned to the comparison between 〈Tao Origin〉and the intimate relation of Tao and Wen in the Han and Tang periods, or its relation with the Confucianist, Buddhist, Taoist traditions. Our study differs from the above in that, it rather explores the total Worldviews as expounded in problems of Individuality, Technique, Nature and Wen of Man, and through these problems, the thoughts of Wen Xin Diao Long. The reason for this is, that Wen Xin Diao Long not only synthesizes all classical literatures of the Pre-Tsin period, but also absorbs all the new trends of writing in its period, resulting in a new reflection on how an individual can realize in an individual manner the Tao in the Classics. For me, the thought of Liu Xhie has 2 main dimensions: 1. how an individual can become a true individual, 2. though an individual can’t be a saint, still it can transcends itself as an individual and accomplishes the Objective Reality as expounded in the Tao of the Classics. These 2 dimensions can be seen in the chapters on the Technique of Wen as well as in those concerning the Genres of Wen. Wen when it is a union of these two (Technique and Genres), makes the writings of an individual reaching the positive values of writings of the saints, thus accomplishes a new view of individuals as transcendence of itself as individuality, and furthermore, Liu Xhie also centers his thinking on how an individual can be in harmony with the World of man and things around him, how such a harmony can be completely positive and righteous. Liu Xhie wanted to tell us finally, how with such a harmony can Wen be viewed as the reality and only virtue of the human world.
