The novel "Rose, Rose, I Love you." is set in the Hualien in 1960s. The novel's plot centres on the whole Hualien built bars to welcome American soldiers who came to Taiwan for rest and recuperation. The content of the novel reveals Taiwan history in 1950s and 1960s. Readers can sense that the author adopts satire style to reasonably mock the whole society which 'cooperates' to earn US dollars from American soldiers on vacation. Through the purification function of the farce, a deep meaning has been conveyed by the novel meaning that in the influential social changes, people have to sacrifice the basis of life- live in dignity to survive. Wang Zhenhe ridicules the characters to the greatest extend as writing style and maintain a distance from those characters by a calm and objective attitude. However, the author's sympathy and magnanimous humanism have been shown. Additionally, the author use "past-present" as comparison in his novel that reflects evolutions of Taiwanese society with changes of time and the author's humanism. He also looks forward to awaking history memories and encoring people to reflect the consequences brought by the colonial culture.
