With the rapid development of information technology and e-learning, the e-learning achievement is the main focus of people. The causes of higher and lower achievement are the most important issue concerned by researchers and educators. The factors caused higer or lower achievement include personal dimension, environment dimension, behavior dimension and so on. But the reason causing to higer or lower achievement is not only depending on one dimension or just one factor. From one point of time data collection and observation or doing only quantitative data analysis is hard to understand the reasons of higher or lower achievement. It needs a long-term data collection and adopts mixed qualitative and quantitative methods to understand the real reasons and the cause relation of higher or lower achievement.
Understanding students’ behaviors of higher and lower achievement can deeply assess students, diagnose the learning obstacles of students and quickly giving help to students in time. Thus, our research mainly adopting qualitative method and aided by quantitative method and longitudinal analysis. Beside analyzing learning achievement of all students in one class, we further explore deeply on the higher and lower achievement students by analyzing the interaction among factors in different dimensions such that the main reasons caused studnets’ higher and lower achievement can be found.
The contributions of this study are: 1.adopting multiple dimensions with different viewpoints and adopting longitudinal method to deeply understand the causes of higher and lower achievement students. 2.applying multiple theories to analyze the learner behaviors and explanding the social cognitive theory to explain the learning achievement. 3. understanding the details and interactions of each dimensions of social cognitive theory via real-case examples. 4.adopting negative and positive views to explore learning satisfaction and found the effects of negative factors are stronger than the positive factors. 5.through multi-case studying to develop many propositions for consolidating theories and for future study. 6.finding many critical incidents or problems through the empirical study and providing suggestions for improving teaching in e-learning.
