The purpose of the present study was to investigate happiness developmental changes in adolescents with physical & mental disorder and the relevant influential factors. In addition, the differences in the sense of happiness that the gender role would make were further analyzed. The study used the Special Needs Education Longitudinal Study (SNELS) in three waves in 2010, 2012, and 2013. Data analysis was performed using the latent growth curve model (LGCM).
The major findings are presented as follows:1. The happiness of adolescents with physical and mental disabilities was more and more intense with time, showing a positive growth. 2.The individua’s harmonious family relationship could help improve the happiness of young people with physical and mental disabilities and had a positive effect. 3. The better the peer relationships of adolescents with physical and mental disabilities, the higher the initial value of happiness; however, the better the relationship with peers, the slower the growth rate of happiness. 4.For adolescents with disabilities, gender had no significant impacts on the feeling of happiness.
