臺灣日據時期自1930年代起，由於政治安定、社會風氣較爲自由開放、城市經濟勃興，流行文化乘勢蔚起，電影、唱片與廣播事業帶動了創作歌曲的流行。流行歌曲無疑是文化生活中最具普遍性和影響力的一環，歌詞，可說是現代社會中最具傳播能力的文化產品之一。流行歌曲具有娛樂性及抒發情感的效果，想要打動人心、造成流行，就需要運用適當的詞句恰當地表露情感內容，所以歌詞的修辭技巧格外地重要。流行歌詞是一種貼近社會大眾的音樂性文字，擅用修辭，往往使歌詞的音樂性與文學性有更完美的結合。「修辭」是中國古老的語詞，《周易•乾卦•文言》早有「修辭立其誠」的說法。孔子說：「言之無文，行之不遠。」連說話都需要文釆修飾，更何況是流行歌曲！本文企圖以三○年代臺語愛情流行歌詞爲材料，針對歌詞中修辭技巧運用的成果作分類，一方面探討臺語流行歌詞與修辭的密切關係，再者是希望藉由修辭技巧的分析，能使國人感受三○年代臺語流行歌曲的抒情藝術，對於臺語流行歌曲能知之、好之進而樂之。
