《說唐後傳》承繼說唐系列小說而來，下啟薛、羅等一系列家將小說，情節至此由開國大業轉入家將主題，本文由「邊境對壘」的概念出發，對於《說唐後傳》進行由外而內的層次性分析闡釋。首先從外在的小說出版情形進行考察，就其前承脈絡與後續趨勢，交叉確認箇中家／國想像的特質如何承襲、轉變、續衍與挪移，由原先的講史小說翻出有別於以往的「家將小說」新質，並且形成潮流。接著就小說整體情節架構探究其中家／國主題的混融狀態，發現掃北、征東的邊境戰爭之中，漢／番對立的國朝意識只是冠冕堂皇的出征名義，其實各家將之間的家仇恩怨與結義關係，方是推動情節進展的主力。最後針對「家將」體系內部的情感關係，著重觀察《後傳》對於世代交替姿態的詮釋，發現小說透過外貌、武藝確認代際傳承的血脈線索；同時，年齡極端差異的老／少二代展演出既聯手又衝突的弔詭張力，由此發掘《說唐後傳》所開展出來的家／國想像新質，體現「家將小說」的特出書寫與思維。

"Shuo Tang Hou Zhuan" inherits the novels of Tang Dynasty, and initiate novels of families of warrior like the "Xue Family" and "Lou Family", with the motif transformation from state foundation to family of warriors(Jia Jiang Novels 家將小說). This essay starts with the idea of "confrontation between family and state", and analyzes "Shuo Tang Hou Zhuan" historically and texturally. The first analysis in this essay focus on the long- term publication transformation of novels about Tang dynasty, and concentrates on how the family/state imagination inheriting and creating. Thus, historical novels turn out to be a new kind of leading novels (novels of family warriors). In "Shuo Tang Hou Zhuan", plots are no longer derived by stateism, but familism. Although the wars with barbarian in northern and eastern barrier are caused by state, actually the warriors fight for their family's name. Otherwise, the relationship between younger and older generations is interesting. They confirm their natural relation by appearance and fighting skills; the older generation and younger generation cooperate and conflict, which forms a paradox relationship. From these points, "Shuo Tang Hou Zhuan" represents a new imagination flow from state to family.
