本文從歷史記憶與敘事的角度，重新檢視兩部長期被視為「偽史」的晚明文本《致身錄》及《從亡隨筆》，立論在真偽的層次之外，此二書衍生出的種種周邊現象(包括其內容、形成、在晚明士人階層中的流行、與當時「靖難」言說語境及士人心態之間的關係等等)，其實牽涉未能明言的歷史在私人著述中隱遁、浮現、改造、再生的過程，也牽涉後人對前代歷史事件的收編、重構與再詮釋。這兩部就史實考證的目的而言價值甚低的文本，對於我們探究歷史記憶與文學敘事之間的互動，卻不失為一有效個案。本文首先分析萬曆朝所上追諡建文及其忠臣的奏議、明末清初其他「靖難」野史序文，以及《致身錄》崇禎二年、康熙八年兩版本豐富的序跋文字，論證《致身錄》、《從亡隨筆》所述在晚明的流行，可說是當時政治語境、讀者反應及商業文化共同運作的結果。其次，筆者追溯明中葉以來建文出亡及其節臣隱遁兩條原本分別的敘事脈絡之演化，以至在《致身錄》與《從亡隨筆》二書中合流的過程 。最後，聚焦於二書內容本身，分析其敘事擄獲多數晚明讀者的要素何在。文末「餘音」一節則藉清初傳奇《千忠錄》為例，略示建文流亡想像在清初既血腥又纏綿的兩極轉化。

This article uses the perspectives of historical memory and narrative to reexamine two late Ming texts long denounced as ”falsified history”- Zhishen lu (The Account of Self-Dedication) and Congwang suibi (Casual Notes Written while Accompanying the Emperor in Exile) -published in the early seventeenth century. These two works were widely known among late Ming and early Qing officials and literati, and significantly reformulated the historical memory of the Jianwen emperor. In this article, I present the process through which the obscured memory of a tragically deposed emperor became a fully flesh and blood figure in two fabricated historical narratives. I argue that the formation and popularity of the two texts provide us with a valuable case to investigate the intricate interactions among history, memory, and writing. This article begins with a discussion of the rhetoric employed in the memorials submitted to the Wanli court concerning the reinstatement of Jianwen and his martyrs; the prefaces and postscripts of Zhishen lu; and contemporary unofficial histories. I demonstrate that political discourse, readers' reception, and commercial promotion all contributed to the prevalence of the ”imagined” history of Jianwen's exile during the late Wanli period. Next, I trace the formation of these two texts from earlier private historical records, including biji (miscellaneous notes). A close examination of these sources shows that Zhishen lu is the product of its writer collating and editing previous records. Based on Zhishen lu, the writer of Congwang suibi made further modifications to create an elaborate and moving story of a group of loyalists who followed Jianwen in exile for almost forty years. Finally, I turn to the two texts themselves to analyze the elements that might have appealed to the sensibility of the late Ming readers.
