This article reviews the studies of Taiwan Hakka music in the past century. I focused on local writings on Hakka music, but I also examined publications in relation to the music from neighboring regions that had shaped the perspectives of Taiwanese writers. I analyzed the evolution of research foci. In addition, I discussed the "paradigm shifts" in Hakka Studies proposed by recent studies, arguing that the new foci in Hakka Studies may benefit the studies of Hakka music. Finally, I discussed the significance of the four articles presented by this special issue, highlighting their contribution to existing literature.
