This study aimed to investigate the influence of Gestalt therapy towards the unfinished business of teenagers with divorced parents. Four teenagers with unfinished business and divorced parents were the study subjects, and multiple probe design across subject of single subject design was the study method. Experimental design included baseline, immediately after intervention, and maintenance stages, and Unfinished Business Resolution Scale (UFB-RS), Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), and Working Alliance Inventory-Short Form (WAI-S) were used. The quantitative data obtained from the scales that were amended according to the teenagers was used to evaluate the therapeutic outcome of Gestalt therapy towards the unfinished business of teenagers with divorced parents, attention and awareness of the unfinished business subjects, and the change of therapeutic relationship between therapists and subjects. This study made use of visual analysis, C statistics, and effect size to analyze the resolution and awareness of the subjects, and social validity data was also used to arrange and generalize some helpful materials to understand the actual living situation of the subjects so as to get a more significant outcome; thus, the meaning that quantitative data represented could be shown. The followings were the findings of this study:
1. Gestalt therapy showed positive therapeutic outcome to the unfinished business of teenagers with divorced parents.
2. Gestalt therapy has inconsistent change results towards the awareness of teenagers with divorced parents according to different awareness levels and intensions.
3. The working alliance of teenagers with divorced parents that this study carried out was contributive to the resolution of unfinished business.
4. Single subject design was applicable to relationship experimental therapy.
According to the study result, this study proposed suggestions regarding the outcome of Gestalt therapy towards the resolution of unfinished business of teenagers with divorced parents, including suggestions about the theory and practice of consulting and psychotherapy and suggestions regarding future studies, so as to serve as references for counselors and psychotherapists and future researchers.
