”Gender Education” is one of the Major Issues in the General Guidelines of Grade 1-9 Curriculum of Elementary and Junior High School which was declared by the Ministry of Education. After the passing of Gender Equity Law in 2004, all schools enthusiastically promote gender education on campus. However, the White Paper on the Gender Education published in 2010 shows that teachers are still lack of gender consciousness and the related training for pre-service teachers are inadequate. Recently many teacher education programs start to offer Gender Education courses in colleges, but their impact on gender consciousness remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to analyze the evaluation of a Gender Education course taught by the researcher, in order to understand the change of gender consciousness among a group of future teachers. A total of thirty eight participants provided qualitative and quantitative data for analysis. The results show that the participants' understanding of the meaning of Gender Education have significantly transformed. Their definitions include broadness, everyday praxis, gender diversity and difference, breaking prejudice, respect and acceptance, value clarification, and equity. Also, the participants consider the course very helpful, especially in the areas of understanding the hazards of gendered prejudice, and the diversity of gender roles and sexual orientations. These results support the positive impact of the Gender Education course on enhancing pre-service teachers' gender consciousness. Finally, implications for implementing Gender Education courses will be discussed.
