在本文中，我們絕非僅針對社會學中的質性研究傳統做一分析和介紹；我們也不
是排它的想讓質性研究取代量化研究。我們的方式是以各種不同學科、研究法、性別、年齡
等的研究者以其自身的訓練和學養，提出一個儘量完整的有關計質研究的說明。而此說明的
目的，在於向讀者們提供一個有別於較熟悉的、優勢的 (以及所有因此而生的弊病 ) 和傳
統的替代性研究傳統。終極而言，本文所追求的是一個不同視野展現；而這個展現的企圖將
對研究者在方法上的補充和輔助有著實質的貢獻。

This essay attempts to provide a critical introduction on qualitative
research methodology. It does not claim that qualitative research has the solo
legitimacy in studying social phenomena; nor does it intend to exclude (or
replace) the main stream quantitative research tradition. Rather, by describing
the various dimensions of qualitative research- including methods, ideas,
procedures, and disciplines, the paper will help the readers to gain a whole
picture in qualitative studies. Startin from the comparison of qualitative/
quantitative research, the emphasis of the importance of qualitative methods;
followed by introduction of the strength as well as the weakness of the
qualitative methodology, and the discussion on politics and ethics of fieldwork,
the article ends with a session in presenting a cluster of examples of
qualitative study results here in Taiwan. In all, this research intends to
explain and advocate the importance of qualitative studies.
