This study analyzed the third strokes in 12 badminton games (1015 third strokes in total) of world-class men's doubles from 1999 to 2000. After a goodness of fit test in chi-square test, this study had the following findings: 1) when the return of serve is aggressive, the third strokes were mostly passive (61.64%); 2) when the return of serve was neutral, the third strokes were usually neutral (44.11%); 3) When the return of serve was passive, the third strokes were always aggressive and scored (93.74%). Regardless of the type of return of serve, the third strokes in world-class men's doubles were primarily passive (44.83% out of a total of 1015 third strokes). There were some aggressive third strokes (16.85%), but scoring third strokes were much less frequent, only 5.52% of the total.
