The purposes of this study are to understand the current situations of the intern teachers’ self-perceived professional abilities and to compare the self-perceived professional abilities of intern teachers working under the new and old teacher internship programs. The research instrument of this study is a questionnaire developed by the researcher. The subjects are 311 intern teachers working in the public and private elementary schools of Yunlin County, Chiayi County and Chiayi City, and were graduated from four universities. The conclusions of this study are: 1. The intern teachers’ self-perceived professional abilities are significantly different among those in different age groups and with different educational backgrounds and modes of teacher training. 2. The intern teachers’ self-perceived professional abilities are not significantly different among those in different sizes and locations of schools. 3. The self-perceived professional abilities are significantly different between the intern teachers who are working under the new and those under old teacher internship programs. 4. The interactive effect is not significant on the intern teachers’ self-perceived professional abilities among intern teachers who are working under the new and old teacher internship programs and trained by different modes of teacher training.
