Dialectic Process of Globalization and Localization:
Its Implications for Comparative Education
Abstract
Hung, Wen-Jou
In the context of dialectic of globalization and localization, both education and comparative education now confront radical changes and challenges. Therefore, this dissertation aims to investigate and improve new ways and thoughts of comparative education research, and accordingly to meliorate education practices.
To attend these goals, firstly, the author analyzes the meaning, contents, and economic, political, and cultural aspects of globalization. Simultaneously, this dissertation explores the meaning and contents of localization, including local knowledges and localization movements. Based on the findings of investigation of globalization and localization, the author then philosophizes the dialectical process of global and local economics, politics, culture, knowledge and research.
Finally, according to the insights and implications drawn from analyzing and examining globalization, localization, and dialectical relation between both of them, this research further proposes some suggestions about concepts, units of analysis, research objects, probable new themes, and research methods for doing comparative education research.
