This research explores the decisive factor that enterprises use to select executives in Taiwan and Mainland China. Since Taiwan’s expatriates in Mainland China are under the jurisdiction of Taiwan therefore they are included in the study.
This study is based on the enterprises attributes (scale, span of control, the ratio of line/staff) as independent variable, the decisive factor in selecting executives (job attitude, management competency, trust) as the dependent variable and explores the relationship and differences between the two areas. The result is as follow:
1. The smaller the scope of the enterprise is, the more attention is paid to the executive's working attitude. 2. The wider the control span of enterprise's executive the more attention is paid to the executive's management competency. 3. The higher the ratio of enterprise's line/staff is the more attention is paid to the executive's trust. 4. On the scope of enterprise size, more attention is paid to the executive’s job attitude of Taiwanese expatriates enterprises compared to Taiwan and China’s enterprises; furthermore the greater the size the more attention is paid. 5. On the area of span of control, Taiwan enterprises pay more attention to the executive's management competency; especially the enterprises with the narrowest span of control. 6.On the ratio of line/staff, the enterprises with different management and administration on the selection of executives does not pay attention to the factor of trust but rather pays more attention to job attitude especially the enterprises with a higher ratio of line/staff in Taiwan.
Key words: Enterprise's attributes, management competency, working attitude, trust
