本文的主要目的在於討論地理學內歷史取向的發展過程，其所要處理的面向有二：第一、回顧西方地理學隨著不同研究方法的演進，因而對於歷史研究所產生的不同看待，如Sauer、Darby的主張，或是實證主義、人文主義、結構主義、後現代主義等等；第二、介紹臺灣以師大地理學系為首的歷史地理研究概況與特點。
The main objective of this paper is to discuss the developmental process of the historical approach in geography. There are two main foci: 1) to look back on the evolution of western geography as different research methods were followed resulting in the different treatments of the historical approach in the writings of Sauer, Darby and those of positivism, humanism, structuralism, post-modernism, etc.; 2) to introduce the research situation and special characteristics of historical geography in Taiwan under the leadership of National Taiwan Normal University.
