Based on the author's own experiences of how her work was evaluated unfavorably during the process of promotion, this article shares with the readers how a qualitative report can be written and how significant the ways of writing can be. By tracing how her academic writing was appreciated or inappropriately changed, the author realizes and experiences how academic writing can be a political act. Then, the fiction quality of text as well as the problems resulting from the unconscious presence of some researchers in qualitative report are discussed. These issues make it even more important that the researcher attends to her own role as a narrator. Lastly, the author proposes that qualitative researchers learn from the writing of literary journalism, which stresses the grasp of reality and beauty at the same time.
