近年來，學校領導的議題愈來愈受到教育學者、研究者和政策制訂者的注意（Leithwood & Duke, 1999）。而實際上，學校領導早存在於社會關係中，它涉及了目的和方向，是一種影響力的過程，且特別關注已存在的脈絡和成員的特質等因素，以發揮領導的成效（Leithwood &Riehl, 2005）。因此，校長必須積極的與學校同仁進行對話（Hutchings, 2004），並藉由共同合作的過程來完成教學目標（Catano & Stronge, 2006）。
