The Development of computerized observation system for physical education teaching and sport coaching
ABSTRACT
The present research aimed to develop a computerized observation system suitable for the purpose of teaching and coaching in the field of physical education. The main system (PECOS) can be divided into two subsystems: 1. Sport pedagogy observation system, based on the Evolutionary Prototyping; 2. Physical education teaching and sport training observation system, based on the Waterfall Model. The overall system is based on the concept of Object-Oriented Technique, using Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 C# .NET program language as the main programming tool. The former system, an opening observation system, allows users to key in the categories to be observed, thus, is suitable for observing all kinds of observation situations. The latter system, an improved version of computerized observation system, is developed from 29 observation systems available at the moment. Depending on their research objectives, users can choose the most suitable observation tool to use.
After the complete procedure of trial and evaluation, it is found that:
1.Compared to traditional pen-and-pencil observation, the PECOS can (1)reduce the time spent on recording and calculation; (2)improve accuracy rate of recording; (3)provide users the function to key in categories to be observed; (4)provide an observation tool for all kinds of observation situations; (5)provide the function of video display and alarm reminding.
2.With regard to users or institutions, the PECOS (1)serves as a research tool for researchers in sport pedagogy; (2)provides in-service teachers complete information feedback for their teaching situation; (3)provides teacher education institution tools to help students practice observation skills; (4)provides administrative institutions observation tools to be used while examining and recruiting new teachers.
Key words: computerized observation system, Physical education teaching, Sport coaching, Visual Studio 2003 C# .NET Program language.
