究竟要怎樣由質性資料中引出結論？這涉及資料的詮釋，詮釋就是創塑意義。詮釋是一種藝術，也是一種技術。筆者認為僅強調詮釋的藝術，無法舒緩研究新手們「無跡可尋」之苦，為此本文介紹了M.B. Miles與A. M. Huberman提出的十三種技術，用來為質性資料創塑意義，從而形成初步的研究結論；這些初步的結論還需要再運用技術去確認，才成為正式的結論。本文因限於篇幅，先介紹結論引出的技術，以後再另文說明確認的技術。 這些引出結論的技術包括(1)尋找主旨；(2)看出狀似合理的東西；(3)彙集；(4)譬喻；(5)計算次數；(6)作對照與比較；(7)分解變項；(8)把個殊納入普遍中；(9)提煉出因素；(10)注意變項間的關係；(11)找出中介變項；(12)建立一個合理的事件鍊；(13)創造在概念上/理論上的一致性。這些技術可幫助研究者達到質性研究的兩種目的：初階目的描述、進階目的解釋；而前七項技術主要為達成描述的目的，後六項則有助於達成解釋的目的。本文除說明這些技術的運用原則外，也盡力舉例說明，以期幫助研究新手們應用這些技術。
Many practicing researchers struggle with actual qualitative data analysis issues. In this article I discuss 13 specific tactics that were derived by M. B. Miles and A. M. Huberman for drawing meaning from qualitative data. I describe the general analysis situation being faced, explain the tactics, and then give several relevant examples. I hope this article will benefit beginning researchers to conduct their qualitative projects.
