The four purposes of this research are as follows: (a) To investigate the principles and practical ways of enrollment management in internal and foreign universities. (b) To clarify the contents and importance of the managing items and the indicators of private universities’ enrollment management. (c) To analyze the situation in enrollment management of private universities, especially the target of this study. (d) To summarize the findings of the research and make several suggestions.
There are two main research methods in this study: Delphi method and case study. The researcher had the survey with questionnaires three times to construct the managing items and the indicators of enrollment management of private universities. By using “Analytic Hierarchy Process” (AHP) to assess the relative weight of the managing items of enrollment management. Finally, to test and verify the outcomes of case study and Delphi method. The conclusions are as follows:
First, through literature review, the researcher concludes the managing principles of the steps of enrollment management; meanwhile, to generalize the factors which make the practice of enrollment management successfully – they are the procedures and practical methods of performance control, and the items of effect of practice.
Second, the research constructs 75 indicators through the analysis of Delphi method, and then tests and verifies the outcomes of case study and Delphi method. It leads to some similarities and differences.
The similar relative weight of managing items are “professional trainings of the members and human resource”, “books, instruments, space and facilities, and investment of working capital”, “distinguishing features of school and modulation of organization framework”, “coordination and dialogue of task and formulation of case plan”, “index of academic institutional prestige and eminent degree of academic institutional”, “income of miscellaneous school fees” and “current students’ satisfaction degree for personnel service and current students’ satisfaction degree for facilities”. There are seven subordinate item sets of enrollment management in all.
The different relative weight of managing items are three sets. The first set includes “human resource”, “capital and facilities”, “organization and policies”. The second set includes “performance control”, ”design and program”, “current student service”, “student recruitment and promotion”. The third set includes “growth and decline of freshmen and current students”, “sum of capital income”, ”satisfaction degree of current students”, “achievement of current students and graduates”. Besides, there are four subordinate item sets of enrollment management. The first set includes “guidance and assistance of learning”, “solution of the problems in the life”, “program and counsel of career”, “maintenance of students’ rights and interests”. The second set includes “promotion of medium route”, “promotion of material route”, “obligate service outside of the school”. The third set includes “achievement of current students” and “achievement of graduates”. Fourth set includes “growth and decline of freshmen”, “growth and decline of current students”.
According to the findings, the research makes some suggestions for the related educational organizations.
