The purposes of this study carried out by action research were to understand the implementing process and effects of the family-centered positive behavior support plan designed for intervening smearing feces behavior of a student with multiple disabilities. The researcher and the parent developed and implemented the plan in a parent-professional collaborative partnership. By conducting functional assessment and family assessment, the researcher and the parent got the information to design a contextually appropriate positive behavior plan. Through providing the family parental training (or support activities), the researcher helped the family to implement the plan in the family contexts. The parental training included engaging in problem-solving discussions with the parent, modeling instructional strategies, providing written plan, strategies, and abstract of import discussions. The data were collected by observation, parent’s records, researcher’s reflection notes, interviews and others (e.g. checklists) for the researcher to know the changes of the smearing feces behavior and positive behaviors, and the growth of both the parent and the researcher. The conclusions of this study were as follows:
1. The family-centered positive behavior plan could reduce the rate of smearing feces behavior to zero for the student with multiple disabilities, and maintenance effect was good.
2. The family-centered positive behavior plan could help the student with multiple disabilities to build the ability to use the toilet gradually.
3. The family-centered positive behavior plan could not help the student with multiple disabilities to build the ability to actively communicate the motivation for using the toilet by AAC.
4. The family-centered positive behavior plan could help the student with multiple disabilities to promote her self-concept and family status, increase others’ positive attitude towards her, and improve the quality of life of her family.
5. Both the researcher and parent enhanced the abilities of intervening behavior problems and collaborating with each other through conducting the family-centered positive behavior plan.
