Abstract In order to analyze the recent studies and theoretical vs. empirical trends on the topic of “school innovation management” in Taiwan, this study takes journal articles, theses, and dissertations published between 2002 and 2010 for the main research objectives. Firstly, the authors discuss the meanings of “school innovation management”, and build the framework of “school innovation management” for the basis of analysis. Secondly, the authors collect 176 journal articles, theses, and dissertations in order to analyze in the perspective of research topics, periods, objectives, methods, and orientations. There are six findings in this study: (1) Multi-dimensional research topics should be provided. (2) Along with short-term political impact, longitudinal studies should be conducted. (3) The objectives of researches should be more diverse. (4) Mixed methods should be employed. (5) Contemporary management theories should be introduced. (6) Building sustainable development and quality schools with innovation.
