　　　　　高等教育之辦學取向可分為研究、教學及社區等三種類型，依大學校院本身條件與外在環境需求，各大學可自我評估學校發展方向。而近來終身學習與回流教育的衝擊，使得大學與社區、及產企業界的結合，回饋社會的需求日漸重要，為達大學資源更有效的利用，在大學量的擴增與普及化需求下，可思考是否每一所大學校院非得以研究為重心？也許有些學校可考量朝教學、推廣服務等方向發展，才不致樣樣都重視，而毫無特色。本研究能藉適當的表現指標，以集群分析法嘗試將國內大學分群，了解各大學目前的辦學傾向，並提供教育行政與大學發展之參考。
