There is a close relation between phenomenology and qualitative research. The author regards phenomenology as the main underlying philosophy of qualitative research in the beginning. On the one hand, he seeks the phenomenology common concept; on the other hand he takes this to carry on reflection of qualitative research to obtain the common view regarding how to do qualitative research. The following are the important discoveries of this article. The meaning is qualitative research’s basic concern. For example, quantitative data deal with numbers, qualitative data deal with meanings. The term “horizon”, according to the theories of many phenomenologists, is the key concept to distinguish social science and nature science. This article explores the relation between horizon and meaning from the definition, type and discovery methods of the horizon. The article further examines qualitative research from different levels such as fusion of horizon and the change of the boundaries of horizon.
