本研究的主要目的是在探討家長參與學校教育的性別差異性，以「家長信念」（包括「性別角色態度」、「學校民主氣氛知覺」與「價值觀」）和「人際關係」兩類變項作爲中介變項，進一步參照了路徑分析方式，建立一個因果模型，來探討造成其性別差異的影響因素為何。本研究以問卷方式對1262位高雄縣市國小學生家長做調查。資料統計分析上使用了因素分析、多元迴歸和路徑分析等方法。主要研究結果發現如下：1.無論父親或母親，對於學校教育的參與均不普遍；2.父親與母親在不同面向的學校教育參與有明顯的差異性；3.本研究運用「家長信念」和「人際關係」兩類中介變項所建立之因果模型，對於家長參與學校教育的性別差異性之解釋獲得部分支持，即父母親在學校教育參與的差異表現，部分可歸因於其在家長信念與人際關係有所差異。最後，根據研究發現，研究者提出對性別平等工作之推動、學校經營實務與進一步研究的具體建議。
