The new nine-years top-to-down curriculum program has started to run in the elementary schools of Taiwan from the 90th academic year. One of the essences of the new curriculum is to develop the school-based curriculum. As a result, the curriculum leadership of the principal will significantly influence the success of the curriculum development, and thus becomes whom the public places hope on. How to play the role of leader for curriculum development is a new topic but has obstacle to conquer for the principal due to the currently conservative culture of the campus. This paper discusses the difficulties and the prospect of the principal from the role expectation of the curriculum leader. The meaning of curriculum leadership and the necessity for the principle are analyzed first. Then the effective curriculum leadership and the scholar's expectation for the curriculum leader are discussed. Accordingly, the difficulties of the curriculum leader are investigated. Finally, eight suggestions were proposed to fulfill the curriculum leadership of principal.
