The research method of this study is questionnaire survey. Subjects are the two-year program students in the institutes of technology in South Taiwan. The purpose of this study aims to understand the relationship between cultural capital and barriers to learning. Valid samples to this study were 826 2-year-program students selected through stratified random cluster sampling from the technology colleges and universities in South Taiwan. Data were collected with questionnaires developed by researcher. Survey was started from April to the end of May of 2002. Factor analysis, descriptive statistics, multiple regression and partial correlations were used to analyze the data. Major findings of this study are summarized as follows: 1. Most of the two-year program students are female, at the age of 25 to 30, monthly income over NT$ 30,000, family monthly income over NT$ 46,000, work as employee of professional or management level. 2. The barriers to learning can not be predicted through demographic variables (gender, age, monthly income, family monthly income). 3. After controlling demography variables, cultural capital has positive effect on the barriers to learning. 4. The best predictor of the barriers to learning is the embodied state.
